During the Nintendo Direct presentation today, Iwata discussed how the Wii U Gamepad controller was “a social window.” A window into the universe of your Miis, where whatever the world is saying about the game you are playing is plastered everywhere. Showcased was a New Super Mario Bros. game. If you die, other people’s comments about dying in the same place will show up before your next life begins. As you travel across the world map, Mii statements about particular levels appear above that level, as pictured below:
We’ve seen the flying racoon suit, but a flying squirrel suit?? Is this something new, or does Thomas just need work on his animal distinction skills? Michael also mentions utilizing an inflatable baby Yoshi, which opens up a whole world of exciting Yoshi potential. But the thing worth noting is Catherine’s comments – or rather what’s above it. She beat the level in under 100 seconds, a fine accomplishment. Well done, Catherine. But above her comment, in an orange bar, a seperate comment noting her accomplishment is shown, and it’s in the same color orange as the Accomplishments section in StreetPass Plaza on the 3DS. Is this going to be the future of Nintendo “Accomplishments”? Will it be up to each game to make these accomplishments, or will they be linked to the specific user account over the Nintendo Network? The possibilities are extremely exciting, and I cannot wait to see what this week brings us! Will Nintendo make the huge advancements it needs to? Is this a leak of things to come?
